To enlarge text on iPhone in iOS 27, open Settings, tap Appearance, tap Text Size, and drag the slider to the right. If the largest setting is still too small, go to Settings > Accessibility > Display & Text Size > Larger Text, turn on Larger Accessibility Sizes, and drag the slider further. On iOS 26 and earlier, Text Size is under Display & Brightness instead of Appearance.

Which option should you use?

You can combine these. Many people turn on Bold Text and raise Text Size a few steps.
Two terms help here. Dynamic Type is Apple’s system that lets apps follow your text-size choice. Apple says the setting changes text in supported apps, including Calendar, Mail, Messages, Notes, and Settings. Apps that don’t support it keep their own text size, which is why some apps don’t change.
Change the text size
On iOS 27:
- Open the Settings app (the gray gear icon).
- Tap Appearance.
- Tap Text Size. A screen with a slider and a sample paragraph appears.
- Drag the slider to the right to make text bigger, or to the left to make it smaller. The sample text changes as you drag.
- Open an app such as Messages or Mail to check the result. Go back and adjust if needed.
On iOS 26 and earlier: open Settings, tap Display & Brightness, tap Text Size, then drag the slider.
You can also reach the same slider from Settings > Accessibility > Display & Text Size > Larger Text. It’s the same setting, so a change in one place shows in the other.
Make text even larger with Larger Accessibility Sizes
The standard slider stops at a moderate size. Larger Accessibility Sizes adds several bigger steps.
- Open Settings and tap Accessibility.
- Tap Display & Text Size.
- Tap Larger Text.
- Turn on Larger Accessibility Sizes. The slider gains extra positions on the right.
- Drag the slider until the sample text is comfortable to read.
At the largest sizes, some apps cut off labels or push buttons off screen, which can make them harder to tap. If that happens, move the slider one or two steps to the left.
Make text bold
Bold Text makes letters thicker across iPhone menus and supported apps.
On iOS 27: open Settings, tap Appearance, then turn on Bold Text.
On iOS 26 and earlier: open Settings, tap Display & Brightness, then turn on Bold Text.
The switch is also in Settings > Accessibility > Display & Text Size on both versions. Bold Text and Text Size work together, so you can use both.
Change the text size for one app only
You might want large text in Mail or a reading app but normal text everywhere else. There are two ways.
Use the Text Size control in Control Center
- Open the app you want to change.
- Swipe down from the top-right corner of the screen to open Control Center.
- Tap the Text Size control (it shows two letter A’s) to open its slider.
- If you see options at the bottom for this app only or all apps, choose the app’s name to limit the change to that app.
- Drag the slider up to make text bigger. Swipe up or tap outside Control Center to return to the app.
If the Text Size control isn’t in Control Center, add it. Apple’s steps: open Control Center, tap the add button (+) in the top-left corner, tap Add a Control, then tap Text Size.
Use Per-App Settings
- Open Settings > Accessibility > Per-App Settings.
- Tap Add App, then choose the app from the list.
- Tap the app’s name to open its settings.
- Change the text-size setting there. Apple’s guide says these per-app settings cover color, text size, and motion options.
To undo a per-app change, return to Per-App Settings and set the option back to the default, or remove the app from the list.
Make everything bigger with Display Zoom
Text Size changes only text. Display Zoom makes the whole interface larger, including Home Screen icons, buttons, and the keyboard. You’ll see less on each screen.
On iOS 27:
- Open Settings and tap Appearance.
- Tap Display Zoom.
- Tap Larger Text. A preview shows the zoomed layout.
- Tap the confirm button in the top-right corner, then tap Use Zoomed. The screen may go dark briefly while iPhone applies the new layout.
On iOS 26 and earlier: open Settings, tap Display & Brightness, tap Display Zoom, tap Larger Text, tap the confirm button, then tap Use Zoomed.
To go back, repeat the steps and choose Default. If you don’t see Display Zoom, your iPhone model may not offer it.
Magnify any part of the screen with Zoom
Zoom is a magnifier built into iOS. It works in every app, including apps whose text doesn’t resize.
Turn it on:
- Open Settings > Accessibility > Zoom.
- Turn on Zoom.
- Optional: under Zoom Region, choose Full Screen Zoom to magnify the whole screen or Window Zoom to magnify only part of it with a movable lens.
Use it:
- Zoom in or out: double-tap the screen with three fingers.
- Change how much it magnifies: double-tap with three fingers, keep your fingers down after the second tap, and drag up or down. Or triple-tap with three fingers and use the Zoom Level slider.
- Move around: in Full Screen Zoom, drag with three fingers. In Window Zoom, drag the handle at the bottom of the lens.
When Zoom is on, three-finger gestures are used for magnifying. To turn off Zoom, go back to Settings > Accessibility > Zoom and turn it off. You can also add Zoom to the Accessibility Shortcut in Settings > Accessibility > Accessibility Shortcut so you can switch it on and off quickly.

If text doesn’t get bigger
The app doesn’t support Dynamic Type. Some apps, including many games and some third-party apps, use fixed text sizes. Use Zoom, or check the app’s own settings for a text-size option.
Web pages in Safari don’t change. Websites set their own text size. In Safari, tap the page menu button in the address bar and use the smaller and larger A buttons to change the page’s text size.
You changed it for one app by mistake. If text is large in one app but not others, check the Text Size control in Control Center while that app is open, and check Settings > Accessibility > Per-App Settings.
The screen looks zoomed in and you can’t see everything. Zoom may be on. Double-tap with three fingers to zoom out, then turn off Zoom in Settings > Accessibility > Zoom if you don’t want it.
You can’t find Appearance in Settings. Your iPhone isn’t on iOS 27. Use Display & Brightness instead, or use the search field at the top of Settings and type “Text Size.”
Frequently asked questions
What is the largest text size on iPhone?
The largest size comes from turning on Larger Accessibility Sizes and dragging the slider all the way to the right. For anything bigger, use Zoom to magnify the screen.
Does Text Size change the keyboard?
Text Size is meant for text in apps and menus; it doesn’t make the keyboard keys themselves bigger. Display Zoom makes the keyboard larger along with the rest of the interface.
Will bigger text change my Home Screen icons?

Can I change the font style on iPhone?

Why did my text size go back to normal?
Check whether the larger size was set for one app only through Control Center or Per-App Settings. Those settings don’t apply to other apps. Also check that Larger Accessibility Sizes is still on if you were using one of the extra-large sizes.
Do these steps work on iPad?
iPad has the same Text Size, Bold Text, Larger Accessibility Sizes, and Zoom features, but menu names can differ by iPadOS version. Use the search field in Settings and type “Text Size” to find the right screen.
